Municipality regulates trade in domestic animals

The law provides for creation and retail sale of dogs and cats.

The Mayor of Manaus Arthur Neto (PSDB) signed Bill No. 211/2015, which regulates the creation and retail sale of dogs and cats for commercial establishments, as well as donations in fairs and similar events. The proposal is written by the chairman of the Permanent Monitoring Committee of the Amazon and the Environment (COMVIPAMA) Mayor of Manaus (CMM), Councilman Everaldo Farias (PV).

The project became the Municipal Law No. 2.052/2015, which deals with the marketing emphasis is free, provided they obey the rules established by law. "I am very happy with the approval of our proposal that aims to ensure safety to life and health of our animals. There is already a national law prohibiting the sale and exploitation of animals in shop windows and cages and now is the turn of Manaus proceed in that area ", said Councilman.

The law determines that the reproduction of dogs and cats intended for trade can only be carried out by kennels and catteries regularly established and registered in the competent organs and prohibits the realization of donation events in squares, streets, parks and other public areas of the capital unless there is prior authorization from the government. This in turn certify that the environment in which the animal will be placed security features to it.

"With the law in place security will be guaranteed the animals of our capital. We know the importance of the events of donations mainly for abandoned animals and the law is a way not to harm their situation even more relative, for example, the health, which is often not observed in these events. Animals are lives and not mere commodities ", said Everaldo.
