Mp triggers new phase of Zealots with the target group Gerdau

The Federal Police unleashed on Thursday the sixth phase of the operation against the Zealots steelmaker Gerdau, one of the industry giants in the country. As the PF, the company is suspected of having tried to evade 1,5 billion reais through lobbyists who paid a bribe in the Administrative Council of Tax Appeals (Carf).

The PF meets 22 coercive conduct warrants and eighteen of search and seizure in Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, São Paulo and Recife. Among those who have been ordered to go testify at the police station is the CEO of the Gerdau Group, André Bier Gerdau Johannpeter, Jorge Gerdau businessman son. They were also legally authorized hearings two lobbyists, who were arrested earlier in the Zealots and are in the Penitentiary of Papuda, in Brasilia.

The company's CEO has not been conducted by police. Police reported that, according to the Gerdau family, he spontaneously present to testify on Thursday. Searches are also held in company addresses.
The PF says Gerdau signed contracts with law firms and consulting targets the Zealots. They manipulated Carf decisions to cancel or reduce the collection of company taxes.

Police accuses Gerdau and lobbyists to have continued to act illegally even after the start of the operation, in March last year. They are accused of treasury administrative law, influence peddling, active and passive corruption, criminal association and money laundering. The sixth-phase of the Zealots is an offshoot of parallel investigations Marcelo Ribeiro Republic of the prosecutor's office, open to determine, among others, Gerdau's involvement with the lobbyists ring that already responds to a criminal action.

in a statement, Gerdau said it is “available” the authorities and collaborating “fully” with investigations of PF. “Gerdau reiterates, therefore, which has strict ethical standards in the conduct of its pleading with the public agencies and reaffirms its, as ever, to the competent authorities to provide any clarifications that may be requested”, the text says.
