After 15 consecutive months in decline, economic activity was almost stable in April. The Economic Activity Index Central Bank (IBC-Br) seasonally adjusted (adjusted for or period) grew 0,03% in April, compared to March, according to data released today (16).
Comparing April this year and the same month of 2015, a drop of 4,99%, according to the data without adjustments, they are equal in the comparison periods.
Economic activity recorded a decrease of 5,41% in 12 months, ending in April, e 5,97% in the year. The seasonally adjusted index 12 months, decreased 5,35%.
The IBC-Br is a way to evaluate the evolution of the Brazilian economic activity and helps the central bank to take its decisions on the basic interest rate, the Selic. The index includes information about the activity level of the three sectors of the economy (industry, trade and services and agriculture), beyond the tax volume. The official indicator of the performance of the economy is the Gross Domestic Product (START), prepared by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
