National Day Against Tobacco has special programming in Manaus

Alluding to the National Day Against Tobacco, the Amazonas State Oncology Control Center Foundation (FCecon), unit linked to the Department of Health (Sesame), promotes, next Monday, 29, an activity covering various sports and leisure, 7:30 am, in the Olympic Village of Manaus, Dom Pedro neighborhood, Central-West. According to the CEO of the institution, oncological surgeon Marco Antonio Ricci, the idea is to get the message of the importance of physical activity in preventing cancer and other diseases associated with physical inactivity, as well as draw attention to one of the main risk factors of malignant neoplasms: smoking.

The action will be coordinated by the Department of Prevention and Cancer Control (CCPD), in partnership with the State Program of the National Coordination for Tobacco Control and Other Cancer Risk Factors, both linked to the Foundation. They are planned sessions of functional training, aerobic activity, dance lessons, Walking circuit, raffles and distribution of snacks. The expectation is participating athletes and the local regulars.

According to the head of CCPD, Nurse Marilia Muniz, this year the theme will be addressed: "Sport without smoking is more radical". In this ocasion, members FCECON pass on information to participants about the risk factors of cancer and the influence of smoking in the appearance of malignant neoplasms. The substances that make up cigarette potentiate, she said, the appearance of cancers such as bladder, boca, trachea and lung – the latter in greater proportion, since the smoke is related to most cases of this type of disease.

According to the state coordinator of the National Program for Tobacco Control, Cardiologist Aristotle Alencar, the National Day Against Tobacco, celebrated 29 of August, It aims to strengthen national awareness-raising and mobilization of the population for social damage, politicians, economic and environmental caused by tobacco. The campaign focuses on the young adult audience (approximately 13 a 35 years), of both sexes os, smokers or not. The decision to focus on young people is part of the strategy to prevent experimentation and initiation (that occur, mainly, among youth, approximately two 13 to 25 years).
