Arrested chairman of the Olympic Committee of Ireland for illegal ticket sales

Hickey is suspected of selling tickets above the price printed on tickets.

Civil police arrested today (18) in Rio de Janeiro Irish Patrick Joseph Hickey, President of the Olympic Committee of Ireland and member of the International Olympic Committee (WATCH), on suspicion of involvement in an international scheme of illegal ticket sales. Against him, there was an arrest warrant issued by the court of Rio de Janeiro. Agents also fulfilled a search warrant and seizure.

Hickey is suspected of cambismo, this is, sell tickets above the price printed on tickets. Former fighter judo, Hickey is a member of the Rio Games Coordination Committee 2016, responsible for overseeing the planning and organization of the event.

In his investigations into the illegal sale of Rio tickets 2016, the Bureau of defrauding and the Center for Support of Major Events of the Civil Police (Nage) They had already arrested in the act the director of the British company THG, kevin Mallon, and an employee of the company Barbara Carnieri, no dia 5 of August.

This week, Justice ordered the arrests of four other directors of THG, specializes in trading income and business receptiveness to major sporting events: David Patrick Gilmore, Marcus Paul Bruce Evans, Maarten Van Os and Martin Studd. As they are outside the country, the arrest warrant was sent to the Federal Police and the international police Interpol.
