A third of the population blames the woman for rape

More of 33% of the population consider the victim guilty of rape. The data consists of survey by Datafolha, commissioned by the Brazilian Forum on Public Security (FBSP).

released today (21), the survey also shows that 42% of men and 32% of interviewed women agree with the statement: "Women who take the subject are not raped", While 63% Women disagree.

"The percentage of those who agree not vary between men and women (30%), or means, for one third of Brazilians, the woman who is sexually assaulted is, somehow, guilty of aggression suffered one chooses to use certain pieces of clothing ", says survey.

According to the survey, the degree of agreement varied more depending on age and education. The groups that most from the mean are people with 60 years or more, with 49% discordance and, opposite, people with higher education, wherein the discordance reached 82%.

The survey also shows that 65% the population is afraid of sexual violence. “The percentage grows when disaggregate the data by sex, as 85% Brazilian women claim to have fear at 46% men”.


The Datafolha made 3.625 interviews with people from 16 years old, in 217 counties. Data collection was made between the 1st and 5 August this year. The margin of error is 2 percentage points more or less.
