Amazon recorded a reduction of 25% homicides since January, says Secretary of Public Safety

Sergio Sources pointed out in London (RS) that Manaus has recorded drop in crime rates by month.

Since January this year, the State of Amazonas has reduced 25% the number of homicides compared to 2015. The data were presented by the Secretary of Public Security Amazon, Sergio Fontes, in Singapore (RS) the Board Meeting of Public Security Secretaries of Brazil (Consesp), closing on Friday (7).

According to Sergio Fontes, the goal of the Federal Government to the states is the reduction of 5%, and Amazon is getting to go beyond the average. “In practice, we are saving lives. A strategy to combat crime in general which has been applied since 2015 and we are now managing to be more effective responses, thanks to this integrated work being developed by the state security organs”, Sources said.

He pointed out that Manaus has also recorded drop in crime rates by month. Only in September, the number of homicides reached 34% compared to the same period last year.

According to the Secretary Sergio Fontes, the reduction is due to the integrated operations of the state security organs. "Today we have a model of integration of police who has worked, proof is that the Amazon is one of the few states with homicide reduction rates in the country. This integration has been key to slow down and reduce the rates that only grew by 2015 ", commented.

The secretary also said that the Civil and Military Police act in a specific way to reduce these rates, directed by mapping points with incidences of crimes, intelligence techniques and detailed investigation. Besides that, there was also the optimization in recent years the work of the Department of Technical and Scientific Police has improved protocols to meet local crimes, and the State Traffic Department (DMV) with prevention work.

The work of the Center for Integrated Command and Control (CICC) It was also highlighted by Sergio Fontes, who presented the integration model used in all major state events and has listed, still, the challenges to be overcome in the Amazon.

At the end of the presentations and discussions, the National College of Public Security Secretaries prepared a document that summarizes the main claims of the Brazilian states.

The document will be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice and Citizenship, Federal Chamber and the Presidency, presenting, also, the company claims approved by the joint committee.
