RDS Management Plan of the Rio Negro is presented for public consultation

The initiative aimed to collect contributions with the residents of the reserve.

The management plan for the Sustainable Development Reserve (RDS) Rio Negro was presented to society, public consultation, on Wednesday, 5, by the Secretary of State for the Environment (Schema). The initiative aimed to collect contributions with the residents of the reserve to improve the document prepared by the Department of Climate Change and Protected Areas Management (Demuc) the Skies, together with the Institute for Conservation and Sustainable Development of Amazonas (IDES) and community.

The plan presented is intended to support the development and reserve management, establishing zoning that defines the areas and the uses allowed in each, in addition to managements and specific rules for local. It is designed with several workshops, queries, socioeconomic interviews, as well as meetings with the management team of UC in a work from 2014. The document presents, among others, lifting the tourism potential, accommodation, handicraft, as well as indications of leaders and families of reserve, in order to respect the way of life, productive activities, cultural and leisure Community.

The technical team Sema will analyze and integrate the plan the contributions made during the public consultation. After this process, will present the final version of the document.

According the holder of Sema, Antonio Costs, the plans of protected areas management are key tools to ensure the effectiveness of implementation of protected areas, in addition to being required element under the law of the National and State Conservation Units and systems. "The plans are a reference for managers, residents, Community associations, and other partners involved in the management processes of these areas ", highlighted.

He points out that the management plans are the main source of information for members managers of PAs advice can support decision making to guide the use of natural resources, scientific research, among other things that influence the survival of communities and maintenance of protected areas.

The reserve is located on the right bank of the Negro River between the municipalities of Manacapuru, Iranduba and Novo Airão, in an area of 102.978,83 hectares which houses 19 communities. It is part of the Ecological Corridor of the Central Amazon and integrates the Protected Areas Mosaic Lower Rio Negro. The RDS Rio Negro is a form of sustainable use conservation unit that houses traditional population based on sustainable use of natural resources systems. Residents carry the key role in the conservation and maintenance of biological diversity of the site.
