Government issues decree establishing reform commission of the penitentiary system

The federal government published today (19) in the Official Gazette the decree establishing the Commission of the National Penitentiary System Reform. The commission's goal is to evaluate the national prison system and monitor the implementation of the National Public Security Plan, in addition to formulating proposals for the reform of the penitentiary system.

The creation of the commission was announced on Tuesday (17) the spokesman of the presidency as one of the measures adopted by the government to contain the current crisis in prisons. in ad, the government said that the committee will have representation of the Executive, Legislative and judiciary and civil society organizations.

The decree published today (19) It provides that the agency shall be composed of members of the Ministry of Justice and Citizenship, Civil House, Ministry of Defence, of Foreign Affairs, among other government agencies. You will also have representatives of the Chamber, the Senate and the National Council of Justice (CNJ), plus names appointed by the prosecutors advice, public defenders, the Bar Association and state secretaries of public safety, among others. The Prison Ministry will have a representative and the president may appoint two names in the legal area.
