MANAUS - After visiting the prisons and criminal justice Manaus, the Special Group for Monitoring and Supervision (GEMF) will make, this week, inspection at the Agricultural Penitentiary of Monte Cristo, in Boa Vista (RR). In the capital of Amazonas, the preliminary report pointed out the high cost of maintenance and the precarious state of the prison system, as well as deficiencies of criminal justice in monitoring the execution of sentences, as reasons for the crisis in the state prison. Since the beginning of the year, at least 60 prisoners were killed only in prisons in the capital of Amazonas.
Set up to investigate crimes that occurred in the prison system in the Northern Region the group will investigate the death 45 prisoners killed at the end of last year. Scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday (16 e 17/5), the visit includes meetings at the State Court, the Department of Security and Public Defender, among others. According to the adviser Rogério Nascimento, the expectation is that the Government introduce measures it intends to take to promote improvement in the conditions in which they live prisoners of Roraima. The data collected in the inspection report will be included in the GEMF preparing to submit to the president of the National Council of Justice (CNJ) and the Supreme Tribune (STF), Minister Carmen Lucia. The Group may also indicate what measures will be needed for the investigation of crimes committed in prisons and for accountability of "public authorities and agents involved" in crimes, of "directly or indirectly", as the text of Ordinance No CNJ. 13, from 6 March 2017.
The suggested actions may be material or administrative order. The trial of cases pending trial, for example, can be systematized into flowcharts, elaborated together with the rulers of Amazonas and Roraima.
