The Amazonas Health Surveillance Foundation confirmed on Tuesday (2) notification of three cases of acute Chagas disease by oral transmission coming from the municipality of Lábrea, a 702 km (Km) Manaus. Two patients are undergoing treatment in the state capital and a third follows under medical supervision in Labrea. Two other cases are being investigated.

The suspicion is that the disease was contracted through contaminated açaí consumption. The food would have been prepared by local producers and there is no evidence of marketing to other cities.

The president of the Foundation for Health Surveillance, Bernardino Albuquerque, It reported that supervision has been strengthened in the municipality.
