With the arrival of Carnival 2018, the Amazon Security Bureau (SSP-AM) guides the population about the size of objects forbidden to those who will take part in blocks and carnival bands. The list of items to be checked in magazines is based on the Statute of the Fan and is the same that has been adopted by law enforcement agencies in major events.
The restriction list involves 19 items that pose a threat of injury to revelers and that can cause unintended injury or not. This is the case of glass objects, such as bottles and cups, that can be used in fights, but may also cause injury if broken down.
In addition to the size of bans on firearms and cold steel, any weapon or throwing objects that can design substances will also be barred. It will not be allowed to join the perimeters of the carnival events carrying sharps. Aerosol containers, cups, bottles, dishes or other glass materials and aluminum that may cause injuries to also make the list of prohibitions.
The list of prohibited items involves sized, still, pyrotechnic devices, darts, syringes, hammers, extinguishers and helmets. The verification of the materials will be made for the magazines in the entrance areas of the carnival events and aims to provide greater security to those who will enjoy Carnival in Manaus streets.
Presentation of the new rules – no Saturday (13/01), Vice Governor and Security Secretary, Bosco Saraiva, met organizers of carnival bands and blocks to introduce new events realization rules on public roads. Among the main changes is the time limit for the realization of events, up to 23h, and the prohibition of the liquor trade in glass bottles.
The general commander of the Military Police, Colonel David Brandão, explains that effective the PM will be responsible for the security of the vicinity of the event and follow-up screening. However, the organizers are forced to hire private security. “The band must have the private security hired by the event coordinator. But we will be with the military police following the number of people and the material to enter. The PM is responsible for the safety of the environment”, he emphasized.
The SSP-AM will work together with the security agencies in monitoring requirements laid down in the ordinance, signed together with the Manaus City Hall. In this year, organizers blocks and carnival bands should send in advance 15 days to release documentation of the event to the Center for Integrated Command and Control (CICC) for inclusion in integrated security operations.
