According to the director of the Department of Environmental and Epidemiological Surveillance (Deva / Danny), Nurse Marinélia Ferreira, the HPV vaccine is available throughout the year in the routine care of the Health Units, including the ten that work extended hours from Monday to Friday, from 7 am to 21h, and Saturdays, from 8am to 12pm.
"There are many types of HPV virus and some have the potential to cause cancer in men and women, including cervical cancer, oropharyngeal or penile cancer. The main form of HIV transmission is through sexual contact and to ensure the protection it is important that the vaccine be applied, preferably, before the onset of sexual activity ", Ferreira explains Marinélia.
The Semsa began offering the HPV vaccine in public schools through campaign in the year 2013, a year before the Ministry of Health include the vaccine in the national immunization schedule.
The head of the Immunization Division of Semsa, Isabel Hernandes, alert to the fact that the vaccine is only effective if followed full schedule with two doses, and the second should be applied six months after the first dose.

From January to July this year, the Semsa already applied 25.686 doses of vaccine against HPV in girls and 24.033 doses in children, comprising first and second dose.
