MEC extending deadline for renegotiating debt with Fies

Students will have until 10 October to regularize.

The Ministry of Education (GUY) extended, for the day 10 of October, the deadline for debt renegotiation of the Student Financing Fund (Fies). The ordinance provides for the renegotiation extension was published on Tuesday (30), in the Official Gazette.

To ask for renegotiation, students need to have signed the contract with the Fies until the second half of 2017; be with the late parcels, no minimum, 90 days; and have contracts in repayment phase.

Besides that, contracts can not be sued for. Depending on the type contract, renegotiation can also be made by the amortization period. According to the Ministry of Education, but of 500 thousand students are with the financing agreements the amortization phase and delay in the payment of benefits. The total outstanding balance reaches the amount of R $ 11,2 billion.

To rectify the situation, those interested should seek the bank where the contract was signed. The value of the resulting amount of renegotiation can not be less than R $ 200. There is also the input portion. The student must pay or 10% of the overdue consolidated debt, or R $ 1.000.
